Summary : A rock crusher station and ore bin base situated to the east of the pump engine house at Marriott's Shaft, South Frances Mine. It was constructed during the late 1890s, is of granite rubble and has a rectangular plan. It is a high structure with a sloped west side, the east side is stepped and it has an inverted V-shaped hollow. |
More information : Rock crusher station/ore bin approximately 30 metres east of pump engine house to Marriott's Shaft on South Wheal Frances sett. Built in the late 1890s for South Frances United Mine. Built of granite rubble and now derelict. Rectangular plan, a high structure with a sloped west side. The east side is stepped and it has an inverted V-shaped hollow. Part of one of the best equipped mines in Cornwall, closed 1918. (1)
The rock crusher station and ore bin are constructed of granite and survives as a truncated pyramid structure. (2-3) |
