Summary : A section of Roman road is visible as an earthwork on air photographs. This Roman road is a south-eastern branch road, some 6.25 miles long of the main Ilkley to Tadcaster route (RR 72b). After leaving RR 72b east of Brandon Lodge [SE 3440], the course is traceable mainly through fields and woods to Bramham Lane End. It follows the lane for 0.75 of a mile, leaving it eastward to go through Bramham Park and then again through fields, to join the main southern route to York (28b), at Hazelwood. |
More information : A section of this Roman road is visible as an earthwork on air photographs. The feature, centred at SE 3461 4113, is part of Roman road 729 and comprises a much denuded bank. The road measures 10.3m wide and runs for a distance of 50m. (2)
Two sections of this Roman road are visible as an earthwork and cropmarks on air photographs within SE 34 SE. These features are centred at SE 3603 4084 and SE 3949 4104. The former comprises a 131m long section of earthwork bank (agger) which is 10m wide. The latter is also agger, but in cropmark form, and measures 533m long and 11m wide. (3-5)
