More information : Jervaulx Abbey's outfall drain taking waste water from the main abbey drain (SE 18 NE 168), the fishponds (SE 18 NE 173), and the abbey mill tail race (SE 18 NE 171) back to the River Ure, is centred at SE 1795 8586. It consists of an open channel originating north of the 19th-century icehouse (SE 18 NE 194) within Jervaulx Park and flowing east and north-east to the Ure which it enters some 800m downstream (1b). It is still wet, serving as a drain for surplus water from springs within the abbey precinct.
Its very western end was surveyed at 1:1000 scale as part of the RCHME Jervaulx Abbey Survey (feature WF4). See the report (1a) and plans in the NMR for further details. (1) |
