More information : A building platform is centred at SE 1708 8552, terraced into rising ground close to the western edge of Jervaulx Park. It has been degraded by ridge-and-furrow ploughing, but may originally have measured some 20m square. It lies within the area of the medieval precinct (SE 18 NE 148) of Jervaulx Abbey, and is therefore most probably monastic. Jervaulx Park is currently used as pasture for sheep and cattle.
Surveyed at 1:1000 scale as part of the RCHME Jervaulx Abbey Survey (feature BC7). See report (1a) and plans in the NMR for more details. (1) |
