More information : A building platform is centred at SE 1708 8557 close to the western edge of Jervaulx Park. It has been terraced into the foot of rising ground, and although degraded by ridge-and-furrow ploughing still measures at least 35m north to south by 20m across, with a back edge 2.5m high. It lies within the area of the medieval precinct (SE 18 NE 148) of Jervaulx Abbey, and is therefore most probably monastic. Jervaulx Park is currently used as pasture for sheep and cattle.
Surveyed at 1:1000 scale as part of the RCHME Jervaulx Abbey Survey (feature BC6). See report (1a) and plans in the NMR for more details. (1) |
