Summary : 1667 wreck of English Sixth Rate ship of the line which was scuttled as a blockship at Blackwall on 13 June 1667 to prevent the Dutch gaining access to the Tower of London during the Raid on the Medway (1584349).Built of wood, she was a sailing vessel of mercantile origin, apparently hastily acquired for this purpose.

Mar. 14. Treasury Warrant to Henry Guy, in accordance with the privy seal of 1679-80, Feb. 25, to assign to Francis Dorrington et al., owners of the ship LESTER (which ship was sunk at Blackwall upon the approach of the Dutch fleet in June, 1667: as for the value of said ship and her lading as by a Navy bil dated 1668, July 16) the 1,447l. 2s. 0d. remaining still unassinged out of the order No.104.... (6)

April 11. Same to the Navy Commissioners forwarding copies of the Treasury Warrant relating to Mr. Dorrington's debt and Mr. Dorrington's acq[uittances] (both making 1,477l. 2s. 0d.) for so much money due to him and the owners of the ship LEISTER, sunk for his Majesty's service at Blackwall upon the approach of the Dutch fleet in June, 1667, upon a navy bill, dated 16 July, 1668. You are to make memorials or entries in the proper books of the Navy Office that so much money is paid to Mr. Dorrington upon the said bill, so that it may appear hereafter how much said Dorrington has received in satisfaction thereof, if ever same be again demanded. Prince Rupert blocked the channels leading to Woolwich and Blackwall by sinking the GOLDEN PHOENIX and HOUSE OF SWEEDS, the WELCOME and the LEICESTER, an unnecessary expenditure of ships since the Dutch did not proceed any further than Gravesend. (8)
