Summary : 13th century collegiate church with late 13th century crossing and South transept, late 15th century nave, crossing tower and North transept. Cruciform plan with 4-bay apsidal chancel, crossing tower, 6-bay aisled nave, two-storey South porch and two-storey vestry to the North. The secular college was founded in 994, and may have been on the site of a monastic foundation documented as founded by King Wulfhere in 659. Dissolved in 1548. Restored 1852-65 by Ewen Christian. |
