Hob Uid: 1186390
Location :
North Lincolnshire
Barrow upon Humber
Grid Ref : TA0738021800
Summary : Possible site of St Chad's Church and monastery, (see TA02SE6 for the monastery). Excavations in 1977-8 in the area traditionally associated with St Chad's monastery uncovered a Middle-Late Saxon apsidal church. The plan consisted of a 3-cell building with nave, chancel, and apsidal sanctuary, all appearing to be of one phase. Five pits were found below the chancel, but don't appear to be associated with the church. To the East, intersecting ditches were associated with Middle Saxon pottery. They do not appear to be structural in nature.
