CHICHESTER GREYFRIARS

DESCRIPTION + /

Founded before 1232. The original foundation was a little to the South of the present site, between St Martin's Square and Little London, where St Mary's Hospital now stands. In 1269, the friary was allowed to move to the site of the ruined castle, the present site. It was surrendered in 1538 when there were only 7 friars present. The chancel of the friary, built 1270-80, and converted to the city Guldhall in 1541, survives in Priory Park and is listed Grade I. It is now part of the City Museum.
