3-5 FRIARS COURT COTTAGES

DESCRIPTION + /

A row of three 17th century cottages incorporating the remains of a 13th century Hospitallers chapel. Remodelled in 1942. The chapel is known to have been rebuilt for Nicholas de Totnes between 1237 and 1244. A chapel is first recorded here in the early 13th century, and was served by the nearby Hospitallers Preceptory, traditionally thought to be where Friars Court now stands (see SP20SE12).
