More information : Centurial stone, 13" x 11" x 6-1/2", inscribed C(OHORS) IV LIN(GONUM) F(ECIT). (1-2)
Information in both (1) and (2) came from R Hogg, and his grid references ((1): NY 491 618; (2) NY493 619) were evidently taken from 1" sheets and probably refer to Hurtleton Farm. Wright adds in (2) that the stone was found half a mile east of Milecastle 59 and about 200 yds south of the Wall, but does not say how he obtained this information. Ridyard, however, interviewed Miss J H Mitchell of Hurtleton, who was able to say that the stone was found more than 25 years previously at either A: NY 4904 6189 or B: NY 4913 6197, being dug from the footings of the Wall, which was being robbed of stone for use on the farm. Hollows were found at both these sites. The stone was at Hurtleton until 1949, when Miss Mitchell presented it to Tullie House Museum. (3)
