Summary : Built between 1763-1764 to designs by James Stuart, under the supervision of William Robinson, as the Royal Hospital Infirmary at Greenwich. Became disused and in 1870 the Seamen's Hospital Society moved in. Comprised a square two and three storey brick built block of small wards arranged around an inner courtyard with a central block containing sanitary facilities. Extended in 1808 to designs by John Yenn and H H Seward. A chapel was added in 1888. In the 1920s a nurses home and library were built in the Baroque style and in the 1930s ward block were added by Sir Edwin Cooper. |
