Summary : The Alexander Keiller Museum was formerly a stable block built for Avebury Manor in the 18th century. It comprises of seven window bays and is constructed of Sarsen stone with a stone tile roof. The timber clock tower has a hexagonal bellcote and leaded roof surmounted by a weathervane. There are two boarded doors. In 1938, the building was converted by Alexander Keiller into a museum to house finds from Avebury and the surrounding area. It was at this time that the dormer at the north end was added. |
