MONUMENT NO. 114879

DESCRIPTION + /

A small castle, constructed by Pain Fitzjohn in the 12th century, formerly stood on the site now occupied by Castle Hale. It was demolished towards the end of the 16th century when the Court House was built. No remains of the castle are visible, though there is a suggestion Norman cellars remain in the present house.
