Summary :
Further evidence of the Roman settlement at Southwark was revealed in excavations at 207-11 Borough High Street in 1972-3. Timber buildings occupied the site in the 1st-mid 2nd centuries. There was a hiatus until the late 3rd to mid 4th centuries when stone buildings were built on the site. No further occupation occurred on the site until the 17th and 18th centuries when buildings with cellars were built.
