Summary : The site of Milecastle 65. A detailed resistivity survey of the area of the presumed site of the milecastle located a structure at NY 40855793, slightly to the west of the expected position. A small test-trench across one of the walls showed that the milecastle survived to a minimum of two courses of foundation stones. The geophysical survey also suggested that a considerable part of the internal cobble flooring remains in situ. A sword and altar were supposedly found here in the 19th century. |
