| Summary : The garrison cells, custodians office and shed in the outer bailey at Carlisle Castle were built from squared blocks of red sandstone and brick on a chamfered red sandstone plinth with a greenslate roof. They comprise single-storey lean-to-buildings, except the central cells with a gabled roof, and were built against the south curtain wall of the outer bailey. The two-bay left cells date to 1832 and the three-bay central cells and lower eight-bay office/shed range date to 1840. |
