INNER TEMPLE GARDENS

DESCRIPTION + /

Medieval gardens associated with the monastery constructed by the Knights Templar during the late 12th century. The Middle Temple gardens (TQ 38 SW 1983) and the Inner Temple gardens were originally one garden but were subdivided during the mid 15th century. The garden was also subdivided during the 16th century creating several enclosures which included the Great Garden created circa 1528. The garden was also redesigned in 1703 and in the early 19th century. The construction of the Victoria Embankment in 1870 also resulted in expansion of the garden
