More information : Gardens to Castle House, a possible 18th century house, incorporating the remains of Clitheroe Castle. The gardens include terraces which were laid out during the early 19th century. The southern slope of the castle mound was laid out as ornamental gardens during the mid 19th century, and contains a formal rose garden which was completed in 1937. The rose garden replaced a mid 19th century bowling green and garden terrace. A walled kitchen garden, also mid 19th century in date, has been replaced by a bowling green. The grounds were developed as a public park during the 1920s. (1) |
