Summary : The site of the Roman bath-house of Great Chesters fort. It was exposed by excavations in 1897 and 1908. A 3rd century coin hoard and an altar to the goddess were also found. Before the site was backfilled to prevent further erosion it was surveyed by RCHME. The stone pilae of the hypocaust and various foundations were recorded. |

An external bath-house discovered in 1897, lies 100 yds south of the fort and east of the road to the Stanegate, Inside was found a late 3rd century coin hoard. Further excavations in July 1908 recovered as altar dedicated to the goddess Fortune (3). (2-3)
Remains of the bath-house consist of a few excavated and overgrown foundations which now form no intelligble ground plan. Published survey (25") correct. (4)

Stone foundations were recorded from the site of the bath house from aerial photographs of 1984 as part of the Hadrian's Wall World Heritage Site Mapping Project . the site was subsequently backfilled to prevent further erosion. (8)
