The manor house of Hutton John has a Pele Tower of the 15th cent. greatly modernised, with exceptionally thick walls suggesting an earlier tower which Hudleston dates to 14th cent. The west block was added c.1525 and the north wing 1662-6. (2-3)
The pele and a dovecote to the south are listed as Grade 1. (4)
Both in good condition. The tower is incorporated in the manor house, which is not outstanding. See photographs. (5)
Late 14th century pele tower, extended in the 16th and 17th centuries and altered in 1660, 1730, 1835 and 1867. Built of sandstone with slate and lead roofs. The adjoining barn may incorporate part of the 16th century curtain wall. Listed Grade I. (6)
