Summary : A standing cross in the churchyard of St Barnabas churchyard in Bromborough. The cross originally stood on or near this site during the 9th or 10th century and was incorporated in the fabric of the later stone church building on the site of the present church. It was reassembled after the fragments were found during the demolition of the earlier church in 1863. For many years the fragments were stored in the porch and were only recently restored. The pieces appear to be all from the same Anglo-Saxon original and date from the 9th or 10th century. Scheduled. |
