More information : (SO 57005838) Uphampton Camp (NR) (1) A camp at Docklow is mentioned in Camden's Britannia (ed Gough Vol 3) but apart from this there is now no definite evidence of Uphampton Camp, so-called on the OS maps. Only two terraces on the N scarp of the hill, can be seen, without sign of ditch or rampart. These are not typical lynchets, although the surrounding fields suggest considerable agricultural activity. The camp may be unfinished. (Nothing visible on available AP's (RAF 1946)). (2) SO 570 583 The remains of the hillfort, situated on a prominent E-W ridge, consist of three scarp slopes, each averaging 3.0m high. The earthwork is incomplete on its south side, being either ploughed out or unfinished. Surveyed at 1:2500. (3)
