Summary : Surface lithic scatter on Waden Hill, south of Avebury and west of the Kennet Avenue, sampled by fieldwalking in autumn 1983. According to an interim report, the flints recovered were mostly probably Bronze Age, with few implements. |
More information : A fieldwalking survey was undertaken in the Avebury area in the autumn of 1983 by Robin Holgate and Julian Thomas. One of the areas examined was part of a field on Waden Hill, south of the Avebury henge and immediately west of the Kennett stone avenue (sited approximately from a distribution map published by Holgate). Few details are given in the interim report, but the main concentrations of flints appear to have been in the northern half of the area walked. The flint scatters found south of Avebury, presumably including this one, are said to be mainly Bronze Age in date and contain few implements. One of Holgate's distribution plots shows 5 scrapers and a knife among the items recovered from the area. (1, 2) |
