Summary : A large, multiple ring ditch with large, D-shaped enclosure attached on the east are visible as cropmarks on air photographs. The ring ditch is located circa 50 metres southeast of the River Welland and is defined by two or perhaps three closely spaced concentric ditches, the outermost being circa 30 metres in diameter. A large, approximately D-shaped enclosure measuring circa 75 metres by 70 metres is attached to the eastern side of the ring ditch, effectively incorporating it into the enclosure's western side. The enclosure has a single entrance roughly opposite the ring ditch. |

In 1997, RCHME undertook a computer- aided transcription of features in the area of the Maxey Complex at 1:10,000 scale. Fifty metres south-east of of the River Welland, lies a possible barrow defined by two or perhaps three, closely concentric ring ditches with an overall diameter of 30 m. A large, approximately D-shaped enclosure, 75 m by 70 m, with an entrance facing SE is attached to the east side of the barrow. The relationship between the two is not clear; the enclosure appears to be attached to the inner ring ditch at the south, but the relationship is less certain on the north. These features could potentially be of Neolithic date. (1) |
