Summary : A curvilinear, open-ended enclosure of probable later prehistoric date is visible as a cropmark on air photographs, but has probably been destroyed by gravel extraction. The enclosure is aligned east-west, with the open end facing east. It is 68 metres wide at this open end. Its proximity to other probable Neolithic and Bronze Age features suggests a later prehistoric date. |
More information : TF 1363 0754 A curvilinear, open-ended enclosure of possible Prehistoric date was seen as a cropmark and transcribed at 1:2500 scale by RCHME Aerial Survey. The enclosure is aligned east to west, with the open end facing east; it is symmetrically curved and measures 68 m wide at the open end. The ends of the ditch which defines the enclosure have not been positively identified but the enclosure may be approximately similar in length as in breadth. This enclosure lies approximately 180 m to the north-west of Etton causewayed enclosure (TF 10 NW 51). The proximity of this and other similar, enigmatic enclosures suggests the potential for a similar date. Three ring ditches, including one triple-ditched (TF 10 NW 78) lie 10-80 m beyond the west end of the enclosure. All these features have probably been destroyed by gravel extraction. (1) |
