More information : Cropmark remains of a sub-circular single ditched enclosure 123m x 140m, situated at SE 4673 2395. The enclosure is defined by a single irregular ditch and has a small break in the western side and a large break of 42m in the north-western side, presumed to be an entrance. The enclosure lies within and appears to post-date a possible IA/RB field system (SE42SE 65). The field boundaries curving around and respecting the enclosure on the eastern side, and other boundary ditches abutting the enclosure ditch. It is not possible to assess by how much the enclosure pre-dates the field system.
At SE 4663 2396, immediately to the west of the enclosure is a single ditched circular enclosure with a diameter of 11m.
The enclosure and adjacent features were mapped from aerial photographs as part of the RCHME: Industry and Enclosure in the Neolithic Project. Copies of the plan, report and digital files are held by the RCHME (Collection UID: 1082880). NB. The same survey area was the subject of an earlier RCHME survey in 1992, but this enclosure and details to other features were not visible on photographs available at this time (Collection UID: 922907)(1a).
