Summary : A fortified house which was formerly moated. Treago Castle is said to have been extant in the reign of Edward II, but, though some of the walls may be of this age, the building itself presents no definite evidence of any work earlier than the 15th to 16th centuries. Interior alterations were made in the 17th century and in 1840 it was further modernised.

Treago Castle is said to have been extant in the reign of Edward II, but, though some of the walls may be of this age, the building
itself presents no definite evidence of any work earlier than L 15th/E 16th c. Interior alterations were made in the 17th c. In 1840 it was further modernised. Grade 2*. (2-3)

Treago has been much altered and added to. It is of striking
architectural interest rather than a genuinely old building.
Published survey 25" correct. (4)

Treago. Fortified house of square courtyard plan with corner towers and tower porch. Listed grade I. (5)

Formerly surrounded by an outer wall with a wet moat beyond, fed by the River Garren. "There are some traces of further defensive works".(6)
