HARDWICK MOUNT

Medieval motte and bailey castle surviving as an earthwork. A tree covered motte, 2.8 metres high with a level top 16 metres in diameter, and a base diameter of 26 metres. There are traces of a ploughed down ditch, 0.7 metres deep on the north west side only. Traces of a scarp slope 0.6 metres high 30 metres north west of the base of the mound may indicate the former existence of a bailey. Scheduled.
