Summary : Medieval parkland and wooded ground surrounding Appleby Castle with magnificent views to the castle and over the River Eden. The grounds were probably laid out by Lady Anne Clifford during the mid-late 17th century and includes the earthwork remains of a formal garden, and a mid 18th century prospect terrace. Some ornamental trees and shrubs have been planted on the outer earthworks of castle. The park is now in use as a Rare Breeds Survival Trust Centre. |
