More information : Brampton Bryan Park dated from the 15th c. (1) (SO 358718) Brampton Bryan Park (NAT) (Deer Park) (NAT) (2) The park pale is very fragmentary and best preserved on the north west, at the north end, where a bank is visible which may represent the original boundary. Elsewhere it has virtually disappeared but it is probable that the present boundary fence is on, or near to, the original alignment. (3)
The deer park was landscaped during the 18th century and also contains early 18th century formal gardens. Features include avenues, a wilderness, lawns with a scatter of individual trees. The formal garden is semi-circular in plan and is outlined by clipped yews and areas of bedding. (4)
The park lies within the area mapped from aerial photographs by RCHME's Marches Uplands Mapping Project. Two short linear banks located in the northern part of the park may represent 18th century landscape features. The earthworks have been recorded separately (SO 37 SE 113, SO 37 SE 114). (5)
Deer park first documented in 1577 and contains late 17th century ornamental tree planting. A chain of ornamental ponds were created between 1815 and 1839. (6) |
