More information : TA 04907775 Sharpe Howes (Tumuli) [NR] (1)
A barrow was identified in the Sharpe Howe group (which includes TA 07 NW/ 15, 23, 24, 25) which has not been recorded in the Inventory Record. This barrow, Barrow II, is recorded in a sketch map in RCHME microfiche PRN: 1504 by Brewster.
Barrow II is described as being 60ft in diameter and originally had an inner mound of grey clay capped by scraped turf soil which was in turn covered with chalk rubble. The mound contained a central grave with traces of a body on the chalk. Traces of a small chalk wall were found enclosing the grave circa 2ft wide and 12ft in diameter. Beyond this and within the barrow were clearly defined traces of a wall 44ft in diameter and 4ft thick. An inturned entrance was located on the south side. (2)
There is some confusion over the correct source for the description of this barrow. It would seem reasonable to equate this barrow (Brewster II with barrow II listed in the DOE report. Source 2 does not appear to correctly associate the Barrow with Greenwell's listing and this provenance must remain doubtful as is the Event identification with Greenwell 240 (3-4)
