More information : (SO 36066396) Circular mound about 7 feet high and about 41 yards in diameter at the base, 1120 yards south south west of Kinsham Church. (Shown, but not described, on OS 6" 1963).(1) The circular mound described above looks like a barrow but its situation on the flood plain of the River Lugg makes this unlikely and it may well be natural. A similar mound is situated at SO 35816407 (SO 36 SE 11). Published survey (25") revised. (2)
Bronze Age bowl barrow situated on the floodplain of the River Lugg 70 metres from the river and 460 metres south of Lower Court. It stands in a field called The Cott. The mound is 35 metres in diameter and 1.8 metres in height. There is a small depression in the mound on its east side which may indicate past excavation. The surrounding ditch is no longer visible on the surface. Scheduled.(3)
The mound is visible as an earthwork on aerial photogrpahs and has been mapped by RCHME's Marches Uplands Mapping Projecy. (4-5) |
