Summary : Earliest site of the Carmelite Friary on the South side of Blackfriargate, 1289-ca.1310.
More information : TA 1008 2836. Robert of Scarborough, the Dean of York, applied for a licence to grant messuage in Hull to the Carmelite Friars. They held messuage on the South side of Monkgate, later Blackfriargate, but in 1304 had so increased their numbers that Edward I was petitioned to grant them a new site, which he did in return for this site. The church and houses were removed to the new site at Milncroft (see 78926). (1)
