Historic England Research Records

Monument Number 1060001

Hob Uid: 1060001
Location :
Hampshire
New Forest
Exbury and Lepe
Grid Ref : SZ4194098720
Summary : Embanked trackway, of probable post-medieval date
More information : Embanked trackway truncates rampart of prehistoric enclosure (SZ 49 NW 3), sweeping round in NW direction to effectively bisect enclosure. Measuring 5m wide and ditched on S side. Spoil from ditch used to form outer bank(up to 1.2m high and 4m wide). The segmented nature of the bank is probably due in part to former line of trees (1a). A similar bank defines the N edge of the track, although this is more denuded in appearance. Track probably the route to cottages and quay depicted on 1839 Tithe Map.

Detailed earthwork survey report available in NMR archive. (1)
