CROXDEN ABBEY GATEHOUSE

The buried remains of the abbey gatehouse of Croxden Abbey, constructed circa 1179 to circa 1280. Documentary evidence established that the main abbey gatehouse, originally a major stone building, was sited across the line of the present road to the north west of the monastic church. It is known to have been 'almost entire' in 1719.
