Summary : The standing and buried remains of the west claustral range of Croxden Abbey. The standing remains are visible as ruins attached to the south-west corner of the church. The southern end of the west range is thought to survive as buried features beneath Abbey farmhouse. The western range in Cistercian houses normally contained storerooms, and the quarters of the lay-brethen. At Croxden this was the last part of the claustral buildings to be completed (1280-90).

[SK 06533971] The Western Range - In Cistercian houses this normally contained store rooms and the quarters of the lay-brothers. At Croxden, this was the last part of the central buildings to be completed (circa 1280-90). Its southern end and the junction with the range now lies under the modern house, but the northern end survives. It was vaulted with a row of columns in the centre, and had doorways in the north wall, leading into the south aisle of the church, and the east wall, leading into the dorter. This latter door after suppression was altered into a fireplace. In the east wall two original windows remain, though mutilated". (1)
