Summary : Roman road running from Little Chester to Sawley, seen as a modern road alignment. The road was seen as paving near Little Chester.
More information : RR 182 Roman Road. Derby (Little Chester) to Sawley.
A road ran directly to the south-east from Little Chester to Sawley on the banks of the Trent and it has been suggested that it linked the fort with the river for water traffic as there is no trace of any continuation beyond.
From Little Chester a paved road has been proved from the Mansfield road on to the racecourse and then for half a mile the suburb of Chaddesden has obliterated any traces. The Nottingham road then follows the alignment, raised 2-3 feet, for three and a quarter miles to Borrowash. Where it turns off the road through Draycott continues the same line which is also raised in many places. Near Sawley Grange the present road diverges from the alignment for half a mile but there seems to be no trace of the old road upon the alignment; for the last mile into Sawley the present road follows the line closely again.
