More information : Medieval or Post Medieval limestone quarry, seen as earthworks and mapped from good quality air photographs. The quarry measures 150m in length, centred at SK 9853 3660. In the latest photography the quarry had been filled in and levelled.
The quarry lies to the north of Medieval Ropsley Grange (TF 93 NE 5) and although the quarry was not depicted on the 1824 edition Ordnance Survey map, it may have had its origins in the Medieval period. Large quantities of limestone were used to construct the buildings and boundary walls of the Medieval Grange, which would have probably been quarried locally, potentially from this quarry.
