Monument Number 1041290

Hob Uid: 1041290
Location :
Lincolnshire
South Kesteven
Aslackby and Laughton
Grid Ref : TF0773031620
Summary : Potential Medieval settlement (tofts, crofts, pond and windmill mound) seen as cropmarks and earthworks.
More information : The remains of Medieval settlement are visible as a combination of
cropmarks and earthworks around Laughton Farm and these have been
mapped from good quality air photographs. The possible remains of
tofts were visible as four incomplete conjoined ditch defined
earthwork enclosures, centred at TF 0773 3162. The modern boundary
continues the line of these enclosures to the east. To the south
west of the tofts are the possible remains of croft boundaries
visible as cropmarks centred TF 0765 3144. These boundaries could
also relate to the Medieval settlement of West Laughton (TF 03 SE 4)
as this is immediately to the south east. To the north of the road
running through the settlement, north of the previously described
tofts, are further remains of tofts defined by four ditched
enclosures. These were visible as earthworks to the east and
cropmarks to the west and centred at TF 0776 3177. The modern farm
at Laughton sits in an enclosure with boundaries corresponding to the
line of the medieval boundaries. At the western limits of the
settlement is a possible windmill mound visible as a cropmark centred
TF 0750 3159. To the south east of the main settlement is a possible
pond which could be Medieval in date centred at TF 0794 3170.
