More information : TA 1330 6103. Embankment Cross [NAT] (1)
"On the Six Inch OS Map this cross is shown on "Wharram Hill" (also "Worms Hill"), nearly half a mile east of Burton Carr House... It has unequal arms. Its north and south branches measure approximately 31.5 yards and the other two 22 yards each. About midway on the western arm is the decayed stump of a sycamore tree probably 200 to 300 years old. The cross is a large and massive structure and the large ditch around it still remains open to a depth of from 2 to 3 feet" (2)

An embankment cross of possible early medieval or later date is a visible as slight earthwork on Wharram Hill at TA1331 6104. Each arm of the cross is approximately 70m long. A Roman oven, quern & pot have been recovered from the site (Humber SMR MHU729) (5)
