Monument Number 1031468

Hob Uid: 1031468
Location :
Cumbria
Carlisle
Arthuret
Grid Ref : NY3910065400
Summary : Roman road linking Netherby fort with RR 7f Roman Road. No trace on ground. Existence implied in Antonine Iter II.
More information : RR 868 Roman Road. Longtown (Westlinton) - Netherby.
Although no trace of this short spur road has actually been found, it is clear from the reference in the Antonine Itinerary that such a link with the northern road RR 7f must have existed. The camp at Netherby - Castra Exploratorum (NY 37 SE 2) is mentioned in Iter II between Birrens and Carlisle. It is likely that the main alignment of RR 7f from the south through Westlinton was continued to Netherby. (1)
