Historic England Research Records

Monument Number 1030955

Hob Uid: 1030955
Location :
City of Peterborough
Maxey
Grid Ref : TF1300007400
Summary : Late Iron Age linear features and a probable stack stand.
More information : (TF 130074) The multi-period site at Maxey was discovered by
Dr. J.K.St. Joseph from aerial photography (see TF 10 NW 1 for
an outline of the main features). Complex cropmarks of ring
ditches, linears and enclosures at Maxey were plotted in the 1956
RCHME survey. (1)

In 1979-81 excavations at Maxey revealed Late Iron age features
within West Field including poorly defined linear features and
a small ring-ditch, probably representing a stack stand. The arc
of a larger ring-ditch may have served to drain water from a
house-platform. (2)
