More information : A large number of roofing tiles were recovered from a hole dug for a telephone pole through the cement floor of a building (possibly a bath-house) barely a dozen yards from the south rampart of the fort. In the next field the name 'Sooty Field' suggests the finding of smoke-blackened hypocaust pillars and the existence of a bath-house at a greater distance from the fort (1a). From the above description, the possible bath house was situated in the approximate area NX 981 209, now a field of permanent pasture, but there is no trace of any structures here. (1) |
