Summary : Roman aqueduct mentioned by 18th and 19th century authors conveying water to Haltonchesters. The area has been intensely cultivated and there are no visible remains.
More information : (Previously recorded by the Ordnance Survey as NY 96 NE 2.3) Horsley (1a) and Bruce (1b) note that there was an aqueduct to convey water to Haltonchesters from a spring to the NW. Lingard in 1807 found to the W of the fort 2...a species of aqueduct of large stones in which was hollowed a conduit 12 inches broad and 8 deep which discharged the water from a wet piece of ground...through the wall" (1c). Area now intensively cultivated; no evidence found. (1) A detailed discussion of this aqueduct in relation to the fort bath-house has been published. (2)
