Summary : The approximate site of Roman turret 78A, part of the defences supporting Hadrian's wall along the Cumbrian coast. There are no surface remains. The site was excavated in 1948.

Turret 78A was identified on the ground in 1948. It lies 100ft north-west of the west corner of Kirkland farm-buildings, in the line of hedge bordering the south side of the road to Port Carlisle. (2)

No visible remains. (3)

There is no surface trace of the turret in the area NY 2431 6175. (4)
