Summary : Two recumbent Roman column drum fragments. The first may indicate the location of a Roman temple, although may have been displaced from Housesteads Fort.
More information : NY 7946 6871. The recumbent column fragment measuring 0.75m long and 0.5m in diameter. NY 7938 6858 - Recumbent column fragment of the same dimensions. Bosanquet (1a), and Birley and Keeney (1b) believed that the first marked the position of a temple because a stone sculptured figure of the Mother Goddesses was thought to have been found in the same place. (1)

Crow, on the other hand, believes that the column drums have probably come from the fort itself. (2)
