Summary : Roman road; Horsley postulated a Military Way north of the Wall. The course of the Roman road is not known from the Roman bridge (NY 6266/10) west up the steep, eroded river cliff to the summit at Milecastle 49. There is a modern farm track descending the river cliff diagonally south-west from Milecastle 49 which, at the present day, is the only feasible route, but the state of the topography now is greatly altered from Roman times. |
