Summary : Roman road; the north mound of the Vallum is steep-sided and regular with a flat top 3.8m wide though it has been robbed; this is probably the Military Way.
More information : Horsley was able to trace the Military Way coming from Portgate as far west as the point near the `castellum' by St Oswald, which from his description, is milecastle 25. At Portgate the road passes near `Hadrian's north agger' (Vallum north mound) `then coincides with it' (1a). North mound of the Vallum steep-sided and regular with a flat top 3.8m wide though it has been robbed; this is probably the Military Way. (1)
