More information : At NY 209 619 a linear feature, comprising two ditches 46m apart, was revealed by aerial photography in 1975, extending from the vicinity of Biglands milefortlet (MF1) in a NE direction for approximately 200m. It was partly excavated by Higham and Jones in 1975, who contended that this formed part of a continuous, western extension to the Hadrian's Wall defensive system (1a). There is no trace on the ground. (1)

Two parallel ditches, seen as cropmarks on air photographs, centred at NY 2093 6199. The ditches are seen to run in a SW-NE direction from the east side of milefortlet 1, for a distance of 180 m. The ditches lie approximately 40 m apart. The existence of the ditches has been confirmed by excavation. They approach the front and rear corners of the milefortlet and held the line of a palisade.
